1.   Open Microsoft Word.
2.   Click on the INSERT tab located at the top of the navigation bar.
3.   Click on the equation Pi symbol or press the Alt and = buttons at the same time. Doing this inserts the space to enter your equation into. It also brings up several symbols that are commonly used.
4.   Place your cursor inside the blue space.
5.   Click on the symbol that you would like to use to insert it into the document.
6.   To choose the symbol that you need either click on one that you see at the top of the page or if you do not see the symbol that you need click on the more symbol
      (located in the symbols pane on the right side, it is the bottom button (it looks like a line above a down arrow)) This will bring up the basic math equation symbols.
7.   To obtain additional symbols click on the basic math down arrow and a menu of different types of symbols will appear. Search and find the symbol you need.
8.   There will also be a need for a nested equation symbol. To insert an accent or fraction into an equation click the down arrow beneath the accent or fraction symbol.
9.   Choose the type that you need and it will be placed into the equation.
10. Then you may need to insert a symbol into the accent or fraction. To do this simply place your cursor inside the dotted square and insert the symbol needed.
