Two 2nd Brigade Combat Team Soldiers killed in Iraq

Two Soldiers from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI) were killed Feb. 2 in Baghdad, Iraq, when their up-armored vehicle came under an improvised explosive device attack.

Capt. Kevin C. Landeck and Staff Sgt. Terrence D. Dunn were killed in the attack, and a third Soldier was wounded.

Both Soldiers deployed with 2nd BCT in August.

Landeck, 26, was an infantry officer assigned to B Company, 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment.

A native of Wheaton, Ill., Landeck was commissioned in May 2004 after graduating from Purdue University with a degree in criminal justice.

Landeck completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course in September 2005 and was assigned that month to 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment. He was reassigned to 2-15 FA in August to serve as an adviser to the Iraqi Army.

His military training includes the Combat Life Saver Course, Technical Transportation of Hazardous Materials Course and Basic Airborne Course.

Landeck's awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge and Parachutist Badge.

He is survived by his wife, Bethany Landeck.

Dunn, 38, was a quartermaster and chemical equipment repair noncommissioned officer assigned to B Company, 210th Brigade Support Battalion.

Originally from Houston, Dunn enlisted in the Army in December 1990 and completed training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. Before coming to Fort Drum, he served assignments at Fort Irwin, Calif.; Hutier Kasserne, Germany; Fort Carson, Colo.; Camp Kyle, South Korea; and Fort Lewis, Wash. He arrived at Fort Drum in May 2006 and was assigned to 2nd BCT.

His military education includes the Maintenance Supervisor Course and Warrior Leader Course.

His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and the Driver-Mechanic Badge.

He is survived by his wife, Angela; his brothers, Dennis and Kevin; his sisters, Sharon Smith and Rosemary Marseles; and several nieces and nephews.
