Past Commanders and Command Sergeant Majors

CSM Michael Lopez

Command Sergeant Major Michael J. Lopez entered the United States Army in June 1976 and underwent Basic Training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. After a break in service from April 1980 to April 1982, CSM Lopez reentered the military and was assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas.

On March 15, 2002, he became the Command Sergeant Major for the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Drum, New York.

Command Sergeant Major Lopez has served in every level of enlisted leadership. His duties and assignments include: Gunner on the 4.2 Mortar with CSC 2-17th, Fort Ord, California; Forward Observer for the 6th Battalion, 9th Field Artillery, Giessen Germany; Team Leader and Squad Leader with the 2nd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery, Hanua in Germany; Platoon Sergeant with the 6th Battalion, 8th Field Artillery at Fort Ord, California; First Sergeant for HHS and Bravo battery 2-15 FAR, and First Sergeant for Echo battery 7th Field Artillery, Fort Drum, New York. In 1999, he was selected as a Military Science Instructor at the University of Michigan, assigned to the 3rd ROTC region, Chicago, Illinois.

Command Sergeant Major Lopez's other assignment as a Sergeant Major includes duties as the Operations Sergeant Major for the 10th Mountain Division (LI) Fire Support Element.

He has graduated from numerous military schools and courses. Key among these includes The Air Assault School, Combat Leaders Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers School, Operation and Intelligence Course, the First Sergeants Course and the Sergeants Major Academy Non-resident course. He is currently working on a degree in Human Services from Jefferson Community College in New York.

Command Sergeant Major Lopez's awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), the National Defense Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon (Fourth numeral), the Army Good Conduct Medal (seventh Award), the Overseas Service Ribbon (Second Award), the Humanitarian Service medal, and the Air Assault Badge.

His combat tours include "Operation Just Cause" Panama, "Operation Enduring Freedom" USENTCOM AOR, and "Operation Iraqi Freedom."

CSM Lopez is retired and resides in the Fort Drum, NY area and is employed as a military liaison for the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
