Let's Start Bewing - The Mash

Heat Water

1. Heat 5 gallons of water in the Large Brew Pot to 165 degrees F (see NOTE 5).

2. Pre-heat Mash Ton by pouring in 1 gallon of your heated water. Swirl water around and pour back into Large Brew Pot.

Mash-in

1. Place all of your crushed grain into the preheated Mash Tun.

2. Use the Picher to ladle 1 gallon of heated water over the grain.

3. Lightly stir the grain with Mash Paddle.

4. Repeat steps "2" & "3", 4 more times until 5 total gallons of heated water have been poured into the Mash Tun.

5. Stir and Ensure that the mash temperature has stabilized between 150F & 155 F (see NOTE 6).

6. If the mash temperature is not between 150F & 155F make temperature adjustment as needed (see NOTE 7).

7. Place the lid on the Mash Tun.

Conduct the Mash

1. Make note of the time, your mash will rest for 1 hour.

2. Begin heating 3.5 gallons of water (for the Sparge step) in the smaller pot to a temperature of 170 F.

3. After 15 minutes (from the start of mash), remove lid and stir mash with paddle.

4. Take a temperature reading of mash and replace lid.

5. If temperature drops below 145 F make temperature adjustment (see NOTE 7).

6. Repeat steps 'b' & 'c' every 15 minutes until 1 hour has passed.
